Primitive campgrounds are areas designated for tenting that have limited improvements such as a hearth ring, cleared or partially cleared websites for tent tenting, and if potential, potable water. California State Parks also has alternative camping, such as rustic cabins, cottages, lodging, tent cabins, floating campsites, and yurts.

Thirteen Mile Woods Scenic Area, by which the campground is located, is well-liked for watching moose and other wildlife. The nearby rivers are a favorite among picnickers, anglers, canoeists, and kayakers. The Maryland Park Service provides more than 2,000 campsites, one hundred twenty full-service and camper cabins, and one hundred picnic shelters to visitors. Reservations for these amenities may be made through a toll-free, reservation service by calling , (9 am – 5 pm Monday via Friday).
Most parks, even in summer, will have a minimum of a few sites out there, particularly mid-week. Vermont State Parks do not hold a selected number of sites open for â€œdrive-inâ€ campers.
There is no public drinking water or bathroom amenities, no reservations or assigned sites. Vermont doesn’t offer free, dispersed car tenting on it’s state lands. If youâ€™re feeling spontaneous, you’ll be able to camp in a campground with out reservations, space permitting.
There are no amenities at Shell Key Preserve, and campers are required to bring, use and remove transportable toilets. Camping is allowed only within the southern Public Use Area. Within this designated area, there are not any outlined campsites so visitors are free to select a tenting location of their alternative. Primitive camping is out there in state forests and at some undeveloped state parks. This is not car camping — you should backpack in a minimum of 1,000 ft from any street.
